What is Iyengar yoga?

During our retreats we teach Iyengar yoga. Iyengar Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga which focuses on precision, alignment, and the use of props to make poses accessible to all levels. Iyengar yoga emphasizes holding poses for extended periods to develop strength, flexibility, and balance.

What are key features?

1. Alignment: Detailed attention to proper body alignment in each posture.

2. Use of Props: Props like blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets help adapt poses to individual needs and improve posture.

3. Sequencing: Poses are taught in specific sequences to optimize physical and mental benefits.

4. Mindfulness: Encourages mental focus and awareness, blending physical effort with meditative practice.

What are the benefits of Iyengar yoga?

1. Improved Flexibility: Regular practice enhances the range of motion and reduces stiffness.

2. Strength Building: Holding poses strengthens muscles and promotes stability.

3. Better Posture: Focus on alignment helps correct body posture and alleviates back or neck pain.

4. Enhanced Focus: Emphasis on mindfulness sharpens concentration and reduces stress.

5. Injury Recovery: Props and modifications make it accessible to those recovering from injuries or with limited mobility.

6. Stress Relief: Slow, deliberate practice helps calm the mind and reduce anxiety.

Iyengar yoga is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness, making it a widely accessible and therapeutic yoga style. Our yoga classes are taught by experienced Iyengar yoga instructors who make the classes challenging and fun.
